HOW TO STAY YOUNG

Remember, there is no way you can look as bad as that person on your drivers license.

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay them.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. " An idle mind is the devil's workshop. And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

11. Don't sweat the petty things

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Humpty Dumpty was pushed!

If you don't tell about this post to atleast 8 people.... who gives a flip??

Have a Great Day :-)))))))

When Harry Met Sally - a classic of the genre

Genre theory is not about being ‘commercial’ (asking writers to compromise their voice and integrity), but rather is about considering the expectations of an audience, and considering why it is important, if not crucial, for new writers to acknowledge these.

The genres of Romantic Comedy and Tragic Love Story share two fundamental characteristics; in each there are two people that the audience must want to be together and there are obstacles to that union. Given this key similarity, these two genres are useful to compare as an illustration of the application of the theory.

In Romantic Comedy it is the present situation of the characters which is important. The obstacles to the union of our two main characters are situational and/or internal to the characters and are invested with humour. The audience doesn’t need a wealth of information about the characters’ histories; we come into a situation and we work it out - in fact part of the pleasure of this genre. Romantic Comedies are defined by the era in which they are set – I have lost count of the number of times that friends have said to me that their friend is 'just like Bridget'! Bridget Jones’ Diary is very much of our current time, and I wonder if this film would have been possible to conceive and make in the 1980’s? Equally, Sally in When Sally Met Harry makes a case for a career rather than a man, which seems rather dated now – however, this sentiment doesn’t detract from the enjoyment of the film now because it evokes an era that was in part defined by independent-but-sexy women.

In the Tragic Love Story it is the lovers who want to be together and this is a key and significant difference. The obstacles are that one or both of the protagonists are violating and disregarding the power structures in their lives by pursuing the union. Hence, the obstacles are much more serious and the consequences of this transgression may mean death. In fact, usually one or both of the protagonists will die. Therefore, we do need a wealth of information about the background of the characters in order to understand why the stakes are so high.

Otherwise, the recent Tragic Love Stories are set in the past so that the audience have an instant reference point and a way of understanding the severity of the obstacles to a union. For example, Titanic and more recently Moulin Rouge .

With this information you can decide whether to develop the idea according to the conventions, or whether to think about how to compensate the audience so they are not feeling that their expectations are cheated.

Am i Stu Shepard ?

Am i a fake ? Who am i kidding ? Myself or the people around me ? Why am i still acting, or in fact, trying to act as if i don't care ? Of course things are definitely not back in track.. It still hurts, more so during days like yesterday when we chatted up ...Neway its her big day today and here's hoping, nah praying, that she does well... Really well.. :-)

Today is also the day Vaibhav has his VISA interview - or was it yesterday.. Whichever - God do turn ur attention to these two people. I am not asking for any specifics since u know better. I just leave it to you.

Amen.

Sneak Preview of snaps of Day 4 of Test 1

Check here

Nothing....is....what it seems

Why do people behave they way they do ? Are they always in complete control of their actions or are they just puppets in the bigger game of manipulation that is being orchestrated by the one above us ?

How do i explain this...Hmmm.. Here's the first thing i can think of at the moment: 9 out of the 10 people I meet always have something or the other to say about me and my wrist watch. While many a times the question was why do i wear it in my right hand when i am not naturally left handed, (granted this is atleast logical and can be answered patiently) there were the select obnoxious few who felt it was their mission in life to educate me that gold straps were passe. And if that wasn't enough, there were the real jerks who would go on and on about how Indian brands were a strict no-no..Wait, I am not done.. There was also this group of people-on-whom-i-have-no-hopes who actually ran a straw poll and came to the conlusion that maybe i did it to be "different" - C'mon, get a life guys..If that was precisely the intent, then shouldn't i be dressing up like Superman (with my undies over my dress) Surely these are responsible people who know the implications of their behavior..

But then why did i have to wait 4 years to meet the first earthling with a little sensitivity and common sense... one who guessed that the gold strap wasn't by choice and that the Titan watch was probably a sentimental gift..and wearing it on the right hand might have had something to do with cricket...maybe this is all a game played by the Lord where he first paints the most despondent picture and when you have all but given up offers a ray of hope....Wotever !!

"Love is like a butterfly. If you chase after it, it will fly away. But, if you are patient and sit still long enough it will land into your hands."

Break plssssssssss !!

Works been piling up like crazy and for the first time in the last 15 months, i am feeling a little lost. There is so much to do always - management reviews for all major accounts is long overdue, non direct accounts have not been getting any attention at all and six sigma is not moving at a pace where it will yield results that i can show as fruits of my labour.. In the midst of all this there is also a personal life to take care of. I need to plan to attend TRA and Kerry's wedding. I am yet to reserve tickets for Pranav's wedding and then there is also this long overdue trip to Trichy.

With so much happening all around i am sooo looking forward to November since it will herald the start of a long set of 3 day weekends.. In fact Oct 22 is Dussehra and that will be a 3 day break. Then its Karnataka Rajyotsava and finally the big one, Diwali. I need to look forward and plan a trip to some place to chill out. The 19B gang is yet to respond to my Kerala plan and so it looks like i might have to go bratpacking with Avi.. Dharwad, Goa or Mumbai is the question.. But go i have to....Need to unwind !!

Shanti Om Shanti.....

I think i have finally bought peace for myself...Deleted her finally from my YM contacts list.. It had to happen.. Could not torture myself more...Esp after that last phone call on Saturday... Realised i still cared.. and to regain control, knew i had to systematically destroy every vestige of her influence... Mails were long done, blog visits are very very few and far between now.. The only linking thread was YM.. now thats also done... There is this serenity now that seems to have engulfed me...All things bright and beautiful........ !!

The man in the mirror....

Was chatting up with some of my really old friends yesterday - guys who've know me for almost 8-9 years now and quite a few of them commented that i seem to have changed a lot these last few years...They say i talk more than i usually used to...They even commented that I seemed to have become really out-going..Didn't know what to make of their comments but this sure led to another round of introspection from my side..

I guess there is a good and bad side to their observations.. God gave us two ears and one mouth and I have always prided myself on using them in the right proportion.. I have always beleievd that there is much more to be learnt listening to people than by talking...But then sometimes one just needs to speak up.. Nothing can be accomplished by mere thoughts - you gotta say it.. but maybe i have overdone this the last few years..and so i realise the merits of being in LISTEN mode.. there is a certain peace that comes associated with talking less.. I am a natural at it considering i've always been someone who's kept my problems to myself and solved them on my own..

Whatever changes might have occured to me - for better or for worse - are, i am sure, part of the natural process of evolution of behavior.. and i guess i will have to come to terms with it..But today as i type this, after a long time i think i have bought peace with myself.. There is an inner calm..Maybe since i think i am going back to the days when i cared less about my life and went with the flow and was more concerned about the people around me for whom i cared...A return to the idealised past....

Whatever happens, its been fascinating observing this change in the man in the mirror....

Surprise surprise..

How i used to hate that word.. I've never liked suspenses and more so if it was supposed to be a pleasant surprise..When u have something nice to say/do, why do people ever keep others waiting.. Neway all these Qs can be answered later coz last weekend i did have a ball doing wot i usually dont like being done to me...Twas Rashi's Bday on Saturday and since her folks were away in Singapore, she could not go to Chennai.. Neither cud she go to Mumbai since Vinay and she aren't exactly on the bestof terms.. And since she's barely been a week here in Bangalore she had made plans to spend the day with me...Planning to surprise her, i connived with her cousin Deepak to make it a memorable Bday for her...

Firstly i called her on Friday morning and made it appear as if i had been urgently summoned to Chennai on some official work.. I could sense the disappointment in her tone but she managed to hide it well..Then a pal of mine from Chennai had come over and i used his cell running on a Chennai SIM and called her in the evening thereby establishing my story. Meanwhile Deepak convinced her that they should see a movie the other day..She has arranged to party with her office colleagues on Saturday evening so left with nothing to do during the day she consented..Meanwhile i ordered a cake for her and shopped for her gift (A Bryan adams CD since i know she liked him) ...I reached MG road early and was warned to stay away from REX where Deepak and his girlfriend Neetu had already bought for us four tickets for the balcony...When Rashi had asked him about the fourth ticket he has duped her with some story...I left the cake at one of the canteen stalls and watched the first half of the movie in the stall.. Just when it was interval, i picked up the cake and then shocked Rashi by my appearance.. And then we all sang HAPPY BIRTHDAY to her.. and some people in the hall also joined in.. and my was she thrilled :-)) I saw the second half of the movie alongwith the gang and we had a great evening...

Since Rashi had not known i was in town, she had made plans for the evening with her colleagues and since we didnt want her to break that, we dropped her off after the movie was over and went our ways.. And much as i hated surprises till then, the look on her face when i dropped in with the cake was well worth all the trouble.. Maybe surprises arent that bad after all :-))
