Free advice

Expert opinion always comes at a price. But even when one is prepared to pay it, the problem is that when you need the best in the business most, they are not available and you have to settle down for the amateurs who seem to use you to test their theories.

Okie, if you thought all this was relevant only in the professional world of consultants, then think again. In recent times, i have increasingly come in contact with this new breed of "your friendly neighbourhood advisors" - people who mean good but who are least qualified to offer you advice.. and the only reason you still listen to them is because you are already at your wits end and things could not get worse. I think the time is now ripe for the illustration.

Picture this
On one side is X, a 26 year old tortured soul desperately in need of finding someone who can help him understand how the mind of a woman works. Of course no one can still claim to be able to fully explain that but the two people he knew, A and B, who had the wisdom to provide him the answers are both inaccessible.

On another side is Y, a 25 year old snooty (hehehe) rank-holding Chartered Accountant (who incidentally became one at 22) - someone who by her own admission finds most of today's women intolerable and who had more male friends than women friends - One who is now happily married to my cousin and who is desperate to play the goody-goody bhabhi of HAHK types.

So now that you have got an idea on the principal players, should X take Y's advice/help ? NOOOOOOOOOOO, right?? But X did.... and here's what he has to say to Y

Dear Bhabhi,
Its fun chatting up with you over MSN - if ever there was someone at work more vela than me and always ready for a chat, it is you.. All that is appreciated but pls do not give me more of your advice :-(

Your whole idea of "keeping options open" was lousy.. N to think i almost took it up.. Somehow it doesnt feel "right" - Thank God for the strike, else i would have almost gone for the movie..

Your other frequent suggestion of "Wait - Be positive - wait" is also highly impractical :-) I know i said August 15 would be deliverance day but i just gave it an extension..September 1 is now D-Day :-)

However i think i shall take this oportunity to place on record my thanks to you for getting me introduced to you-know-who (we came in the same bus on Friay evening - *sigh*), for teaching me those random phrases in Mellu, unfailingly reading both my gal's and my blog day in day out and accepting with uncharactersistic modesty that she is smarter than you :-)

Chalo thats enough compliments..
Jerry
