Swades

I have so much to say and i want to say it all so fast now but i think i should probably take a deep breath and then go slow...oooooooooooh... here i go...

I am finally through with hearing all the music of SWADES once.. and i must say that as usual its a typical ARR album.. Not awesome at first hear but i am positive that i will love it as it grows on me.. Its a worth follow-up to Lagaan and whether the music will stand the test of time will also be dependent on whether the movie will do well...

Okie, now i have heard the album atleast 20 times.. and the music rocksssssssssssss....Lemme try and discuss each and every song...

Yeh tara Woh Tara (8/10)
For starters, heres why this song rocks.. this is a very simple composition and therein lies its charm..Uncomplicated lyrics sending out a strong message of unity..And the extremely imaginative picturisation by Bosco-caesar from wot is being shown in the teasers makes me feel this song is gonna make it big..On the downside the number reminds me so much of Mitwa from Lagaan.. Neway its ok to have a deja vu feel as long as the original also rocks...

Aahista Aahista (10/10)
I keep saying this to everyone who will lend me an ear.. You dont need a fiery storm to leave behind a place shattered.. even a gentle breeze can do it... N this is something one needs to feel.. cant be analysed.. jes listen to this song...the way Udit starts has me absolutely rooted everytime and then the divine lyrics take over...Minimal music...and then the notes when SS and Udit sing together... this number rockssssssssssssss... Timeless classic...best heard in a dimly lit room...fantabulous number...

Yeh jo des hamara (8/10)
This song is sure to be compared with Thai Manne Vanakkum not nly becoz they belong to the same genre of patriotism inducing nos: but also for the start and distinct ARR touch to them.. Check out the awesome chants that can be picked up in the background very well in a good music music system and also the wonderful rhythm of the whole number..The Shehnai is mind blowing but moreon it in the instrumental of the same song.. Ample support in the form of tabla and ghatam elevates the song to greater heights...I persoanlly felt Shankar Mahadevan might have done more for this song...

Pal Pal hai Bhari (7/10)
Purely a situational number with the theme being a bhajan based on the Ramayan.. will surely fit well into the mood of the situation in which it is placed....

Dekho Na (5/10)
The weak link of the entire album.. while its a good song byitself what irks me most is why does ARR have to rehash songs from BABA here.. I am not so sure it kinda fits into the theme of this album but alka is good though Udit disappoints..

Yeh jo des tera - instrumental (9/10)
For someone who wakes up every day listening to the tabla, this instrumental was a god-send.. Okie, the shehnai dominates the percussion but the sweet sound of the palm drumming the tabla was divine to me...Somehow the shehnai is associated more with sadness and melancholy but i personally feel its soul stirring and this number had me gutted.. After the sax peice in Duet i am ready to stick my neck out and say this has to be the next best instrumental piece of ARRs..

Pal pal hai bhari - instrumental (8/10)
Navin and his flute have always been my faves amongst ARs troupe so no prizes for guessing how i feel abt this one..Again the usage of mridangam gives this piece the earthy flavor making me believe this is the quintessential Indian album amongst all of ARRs...

Saanwariya - (7/10)
This number reinforces why everyone in Bollywood regards Alka Yagnik very highly.. The orchestration is nothing new but what scores here is Alka's rendition..she is thoroughly competent and carries off the romantic notes with elan..

Yun hi chala chal - (9.5/10)
This is the mostrollicking track i have heard in a looong loong time.. I was stuck in a traffic jam for 30 mts today and normally wud have blown my top.. But i heard this number thrice and never realised how fast time flew.. foot tapping, funky and absolutely cool, this one has been on my lips since i bought this album...might nto stand the test of time but its the seasons flavor.. and i already have montages of how i wud have shot for this song.. lemem see if AG does as good a job of it as i hope...

Summing up in case you did not get the drift, this album ROCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
